591. CANADA MAY NOT HAVE A LARGE ARMY, BUT THEY HAVE A TON OF PRIDE, MOOSE HUNTING GUNS, HOT TIM HORTONS COFFEE, LUMBERJACKS, AND ANGRY HOCKEY PLAYERS WHO ARE NOT AFRAID OF LOSING MORE TEETH. DO NOT INSULT CANADA.
Yeah, I’m going to be one of the arrogant asshats that thinks everyone wants to know what they like. But I’m bored, and this seems like something fun to do. Hopefully Hollie (other chick posting on this here tumblah) will make one, too, or maybe a movie list, so I don’t feel like such a skankybitch.
No particular order here, just the albums that came out in 2009 that I listened to a fuckload. Also, the Best Song selection will never be a single, as I hate when best of lists do that. Look, I know that song, it’s the fucking single, GIVE ME SOMETHING NEW TO JAM TO. Alright, this has gone on too long. Lets go. Remember, this is just my opinion. Don’t hate me.
Break Up- Peter Yorn and Scarlett Johansson
I’ll be the first to admit it. I didn’t like Scarlett Johansson’s cover album, mainly because I thought it was badly produced, nor have I ever listened to Pete Yorn before. But I stumbled upon Relator when it came out in May or June, and I listened to it non stop for the three or four months before this CD came out. So far, I’m ashamed to say, I’ve bought it on iTunes and in CD format. It’s just fun, and you don’t have to sit there analyzing every lyric. You’ll end up singing it in the shower, trying to copy Scarlett’s smoky voice and failing miserably.
Best Song: Clean
Not expecting a ton of people to know this band, they’re mostly popular in Canada. I didn’t really listen to them as much until I listened to Fantasies. Emily Haines has a quiet voice, which oddly goes really well with the louder, guitar smashing-ness of some of the songs. The songs are all pretty different, which is nice. I can’t stand albums with a bunch of songs that sound the same. If you were to buy a Metric album, I’d say, start with this one and work your way up. It’s the most accessible.
Best Song: Tie between Stadium Love and Collect Call
Brand New Eyes- Paramore
I might be biased, considering I love the shit out of Paramore, but I really liked this CD. I’ve listened to it a titload of times. It’s one of those go-to albums that I can listen to in any mood. It’s held up pretty well since it’s release in September, at least, it has for me. Hayley Williams can fucking sing, dude. Probably one of the best singers out there today. Try to NOT get goosebumps during All I Wanted. Seriously, try it, I’ll wait.
Best Song: All I Wanted
This Is War- 30 Seconds to Mars
Yeah, I’m definitely biased on this one. 30 Seconds to Mars+First CD in 4 YearsxFavorite Band=IFUCKINGLOVETHISFUCKINGALBUM. It’s just so… different. It’s not like A Beautiful Lie or their self titled first album. It’s completely original. I’ve honestly never heard anything like it. And it makes you want to curb stomp the man, all that cheering and egging on and shit. This album gets you pumped the fuck up. And, shockingly, most of these songs are NOT about a relationship of some sort. It seems like so many albums these days are filled head to two with songs about other people. This album is more personal. Not to mention, Jared Leto also has some serious pipes. Oh shit, just thought of a Jared Leto/Hayley Williams duet. Must change panties…
Best Song: Hurricane
Not going to do a full write up for soundtracks, but here are the albums I was listening to:
He’s Just Not That Into You
The Twilight Saga: New Moon
(500) Days of Summer
Alright, that’s it. That’s how I was rockin it this year. Hopefully someone downloaded something from this list, or I just wasted a good chunk of time.
